Message of Support for Children's Festival 2017

Governor David HurleyHis Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret'd)
Governor of New South Wales

I convey my best wishes to the organising team and participants in the 4th Children's Festival to be held at First Fleet Park, The Rocks on Sunday, 19th March 2017.

Families from over 180 cultural backgrounds call our city of Sydney home and this 4th Children's Festival celebrates the wonderful strength, richness and diversity of our many cultures. It also celebrates the binding ties of friendship and community which unite us as Australians.

Linda and I have wonderful memories of the Bankstown Festival, of the colours, performances, sounds, flavours and energies of one of our nation's largest children’s multicultural festivals and we look forward to meeting families again and renewing our connections at this joyful family and community day.

Congratulations on building peace and cohesion across our multicultural city — and inspiring our children with a wonderful vision of a vibrant, diverse and harmonious community.

Best wishes to all for this year's 4th Children's Festival!

RayWilliamsThe Hon. Ray Williams MP
Minister for Multiculturalism

I am delighted to send my best wishes to everyone taking part in the 2017 Children’s Festival in the Rocks to help celebrate Harmony Day.

Festivals such as these embody the spirit of harmonious multiculturalism within our state, bringing people of different backgrounds together to celebrate culture, heritage and our diversity.

As Minister for Multiculturalism, my remit is to build and maintain a cohesive and harmonious society. Since 1999, the Children’s Festival Organisation has worked hard towards those goals and delighted generations of young people.

I thank President Mr Thuat V. Nguyen OAM for his long-standing commitment to social harmony.

SophiCotsisMs Sophie Cotsis MP, Member for Canterbury
Shadow Minister for Women, Disability Services, Multiculturalism and Ageing

The Children’s Festival was first established in 1999 and since this time it has grown from strength to strength because of the value of its core message to our future generations: “Playing Together and Living in Harmony.”

It is wonderful how a simple message can be such a powerful tool to help build a better and more diverse multicultural Australia, and how so much can be learned by the wider community by the playful and happy interactions between children that come together to embody this core message.

Australia’s multicultural tradition is something that we should all be proud of and must be prepared to continue working to improve.

I congratulate the Children’s Festival on its continued success and convey my best wishes for today’s event.

AlexGreenwichMr. Alex Greenwich MP, Member for Sydney

I write to congratulations organisers on the Sydney Children's Festival being held at First Fleet Park on Sunday 19 March.

The Sydney Children's Festival is a practical way to help build a tolerant and inclusive society. I strongly support activities to build acceptance, diversity and inclusion, and share your goal of a welcoming and inclusive society. I'm proud to represent such a tolerant and vibrant electorate where these values are strong.

Your Children's Festival is an excellent way to build cross-cultural connections and understanding, and to create dialogue that helps break down them-and-us barriers and prevent conflict. This is becoming more vital at a time when there is an apparent increase in prejudice, fear of others and fear of difference.

The Sydney Children’s Festival is most welcome. I commend your efforts and wish you another successful Children's Festival this year.

JihadDibMr. Jihad Dib MP, Member for Lakemba
Shadow Minister for Education

Congratulations to the organisers and volunteers of the 2017 Children’s Festival, for the occasion of Harmony Day. It is wonderful to see the Children’s Festival mark this special occasion, with the theme, “Building on Our Diversity."

We are a multicultural community, and celebrating that diversity is at the heart of the Children’s Festival. For the last 17 years, the Children’s Festival has celebrated and built our diversity, by bringing people together and showcasing performances, traditional foods and arts and crafts.

As a former Principal, I have always believed in giving kids a platform to celebrate and express themselves. Giving kids a space to learn from each other promotes harmony and social cohesion in the long term.
Thuat Van Nguyen OAM and the Children’s Festival Organisation have continuously contributed to our vibrant and diverse community through the Children’s Festival, and I thank them on behalf of the Lakemba electorate for all of their dedication and hard work.

MarkCoureMr. Mark Coure MP, Member for Oatley
Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure

Thank you for your invitation to be part of the Sydney Children’s Festival 2017 at First Fleet Park, in The Rocks. I look forward to attending.

The Children’s Festival Organisation is a wonderful, grassroots community organisation which, since 1999, has done so much to promote and encourage multicultural harmony in New South Wales.

I am proud of my involvement with the Children’s Festival, and was pleased to have been able to arrange funding totalling more than $7,000 from Multicultural NSW and the Minister for Multiculturalism.

I wish you and your team of staff and volunteers every success in hosting this year’s Sydney Children’s Festival. I know it will entertain and delight children and families of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and demonstrate the benefits and joys of multicultural Australia.

Congratulations on the Children’s Festival’s achievements thus far, and once again, best wishes for this year’s activities.

On behalf of the City of Sydney, I send my congratulations and best wishes to the organisers, volunteers and participants of the Children’s Festival 2017.

Now in its fourth year, the Children’s Festival will be another exciting community-based event with a Children’s Parade and other wonderful performances and exciting activities.

The Children’s Festival is a wonderful celebration of cultural diversity, bringing together children and families from a wide range of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The festival is an opportunity for children and adults alike to share and learn more about the many cultures of all those who call the city home.

The Children’s Festival is an important event in the City of Sydney’s Living in Harmony Festival program and is a place to celebrate the strength and richness of our diversity. I wish you all an enjoyable and fun festival.

NevilleTomkinsMr. Neville Tomkins OAM, JP Chief Commissioner Scouts Australia (NSW Branch)

The Children’s Festival is a family day of fun, culture and tradition. I offer my congratulations to the organisers of the 2017 Children’s Festival for their continued commitment to the festival and for bringing together culturally diverse communities from across NSW.

Scouts Australia (NSW Branch) is delighted to have played a role in the festival since its first appearance in Bankstown in 1999. The vision of the Children's Festival Organising committee, and the dedication of many community volunteers, continues to demonstrate its vision and theme Playing Together and Living in Harmony.

Scout Australia (NSW Branch) aims to be a diverse and inclusive organisation — a place where children and youth can learn skills, in a safe and harmonious environment, at the same time as having fun.

Scouts NSW is extremely proud to be part of this growing communiIy celebration. The day reflects the harmony that can exist between culturally diverse people.

The Children’s Festival is an inspiration and an outstanding reflection of our diverse and wonderful community.
