CBCF 2017 - President's Welcome - Thuat Nguyen

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to the 19th Children’s Festival in Bankstown, which is also the second Children’s Festival in the City of Canterbury-Bankstown since its amalgamation in May last year. Our Children’s Festival is a wonderful time for children and their families to share experiences from different cultural backgrounds. It allows all of us to be together, to play together, to have fun and to live in harmony.

The Children’s Festival was initiated in 1999 and is entirely run by volunteers. It has become a premier community event in Bankstown thanks to the support of many cultural communities, youth groups, schools, as well as businesses, media and the governments of all levels. The Festival is a fun day for children and their families and is full of activities mainly organised and performed by the young people and children. The Festival is also a contribution to the multicultural fabric of the Australian society, bringing all cultural communities together, and helping to build a more cohesive society. This starts with the children, whose memories and impressions from formative years will last a lifetime. So activities promoting social cohesion need to be experienced in these early years, and the Children's Festival is an exemplary model of such an activity.

One of the highlights of the Children’s Festival 2017 is our poster competition with the theme “Water is Life”. The Organising Committee was delighted with the overwhelming response from the children, their families and their schools as nearly 600 entries were received showing its popularity. Another delightful fact is the enthusiastic participation of so many schools and community youth groups in the children’s parade and in the on-stage performances.

Our experience over the past 18 years with The Children's Festival is that this event has been an effective contributing factor in building a more cohesive society and promoting peace in our community. We strongly believe that Children’s Festival is one of the best ways to create harmony in our community as well as to make us feel proud of being Australians.

May I take this opportunity to thank our sponsors, our supporters listed in the festival booklet, particularly the City of Canterbury-Bankstown, Multicultural NSW, Campsie RSL Club, Gajic Lawyers, KU Children’s Services for their generous support to this year’s Children’s Festival. A very special thanks to our tireless volunteers who through their personal dedication make such a great festival possible. The success of the Children’s Festival in Bankstown and in Sydney has proved that the Children’s Festival meets the expectations of our community. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Federal and State Governments for their support to the Children’s Festival and ask them to give more support and become more involved in this event.

I welcome all children, parents and friends to join with me to celebrate the nineteenth Children’s Festival in Bankstown. Please share the spirit of our Children’s Festival and have a wonderful day!

We would like to thank our sponsors this year for their continual generous support for the Children’s Festival. Without your financial or in-kind donations, the Children’s Festival would not be able to continue and flourish like it has for so many years. We hope that it will continue to flourish for many more years to come, with your tremendous support.

Read messages from our wonderful supporters. Without their support, we would not have been able to produce these fantastic family events for all to enjoy over the past 16 years. The Children’s Festival thanks all of our believers and supporters. We hope that one day we can bring The Children’s Festival to many more different locations around the country to celebrate a National Children’s
