CF 2019 - President's Welcome

It is with immense pleasure that I welcome you all to our Children’s Festival 2019. In the last 20 years, we have successfully staged thirty- two Children’s Festivals in Bankstown, Canterbury, Marrickville, Campbelltown and Sydney, attracting approximately a quarter of a million participants. Today we are delighted to hold our 33rd Children’s Festival in this beautiful First Fleet Park in the heart of the City of Sydney. The 34th Children’s Festival will be held in Campbelltown in August this year followed by the 35th one in Bankstown this year in September, as planned.

The Organising Committee is delighted with the overwhelming response from so many schools, community and youth groups. This is shown in their enthusiastic involvement in the children’s parade, the on-stage performances, the poster design and essay writing competitions. Today, we see the participation of over 30 youth groups originating from various cultural backgrounds, clearly demonstrating the broad support we have for the Children’s Festival.

We believe that children are a starting point in building social cohesion and therefore this festival is one of the best ways to create harmony in our community, to enrich the Australian culture and to make everyone feel proud to be Australians. Our experience of The Children's Festival has shown us that this event is contributing to a more cohesive society and is promoting peace in our community.

May I take this opportunity to thank the NSW Government in particular, for their very kind continuing support. I would also like to thank the Commonwealth Government, Multicultural NSW, Place Management NSW, Scouts Australia-NSW, Metro Assist, Universal Peace Federation and all other sponsors for their invaluable assistance.

To all participating groups, I would like to say thank you for your enthusiasm and dedication. So many volunteers have worked tirelessly in making this festival a truly successful event. It is heartening to see so many young people play key roles in organising this year’s Children’s Festival. They set such a wonderful example for the younger generation. I hope their own involvement will give them fond memories of their association with us. My goal is to inspire them to continue working for the community wherever they live.

I invite everyone, whatever your background, to join in this fun-filled day and celebrate with us the wonderful success of the Australian multicultural society. I welcome all children, parents and friends to join with me in celebrating the Children’s Festival 2019, in this lovely First Fleet Park in the City of Sydney. Let us all share together this very happy occasion. Have a wonderful day!

We would like to thank our sponsors this year for their continual generous support for the Children’s Festival. Without your financial or in-kind donations, the Children’s Festival would not be able to continue and flourish like it has for so many years. We hope that it will continue to flourish for many more years to come, with your tremendous support.

Read messages from our wonderful supporters. Without their support, we would not have been able to produce these fantastic family events for all to enjoy over the past 16 years. The Children’s Festival thanks all of our believers and supporters. We hope that one day we can bring The Children’s Festival to many more different locations around the country to celebrate a National Children’s
